Quitsato Solar Clock

Visit the Quitsato Solar Clock

Can you be in two places at the same time? In Ecuador, the answer is yes. The true point through which the equatorial line crosses is in Quitsato. The solar clock is the first monument in the world to be built based on space technology since satellites can observe its platform. Beyond being a tourist attraction, it is a community cultural management and research project that seeks to share with the public the knowledge, customs and gastronomy of the pre-Inca cultures. The community supports their activities.
San Pablo Lake

Visit San Pablo Lake Lookout

It is located along the Gonzáles Suárez, Eugenio Espejo and San Rafael townships at an altitude of 2,660 masl with an average temperature of 12 ° C. From the lookout you can see the imposing Imbabura Volcano of 4,560 masl. It is one of the cultural references of the community, as they call it "Taita Imbabura" from which several myths and legends have been created.
Otavalo Indigenous Market

Visit the Mercado de Ponchos

Otavalo City shows her multicolored facet in the artisan market, which is popularly known as plaza de los ponchos. At first sight, it is distinguished by a set of tents and stalls where you can find an exhibition of handicrafts of different materials, jewelry, woolen clothes, blankets and musical instruments. The miscellanies come from various cultures and areas of Ecuador such as Cotopaxi, Chimborazo Napo, Loja and Manabí. The prices are affordable. Also, fruits, vegetables, grains and typical dishes give color to the commercial landscape. The visitor can try preparations such as bakery goods, potato tortillas or cooked sweet corn.
Peguche Waterfall

Hike to the Peguche Waterfall

The Peguche Waterfall is located in the community of Faccha Llacta, 1.5 km from the community of Peguche and 3.3 km from the city of Otavalo, at an altitude of 1821 masl, with an average temperature of 12 ° C. This waterfall is 30mts high and 6mts wide, formed on strong slopes. In the Inti Raymi festivals, the Peguche Waterfall is the ceremonial center for the ritual of purification.
Cotacachi-Cayapas Ecological Reserve

Boating in the Cuicocha Lagoon (except on holidays)

Thousands of years ago a massive eruption of the Cotacachi Volcano left a crater in which the Laguna de Cuicocha was formed. Its name comes from the expressions kichwas tsuish kucha, translated means the Lagoon of the Gods. As ritual site, it is visited by shamans each summer solstice for purification baths. From the waters stand out two islets (Teodoro Wolf and Yeroví), which are separated by the 'Canal de los Ensueños'. You can admire them closely on a canoe ride or from the Cuicocha Loma and Las Antenas lookouts.
